Although the 2020 Nissan Armada may not be the most well-known large SUV, its striking design and tranquil interior make it stand out from other mainstream competitors. The three-row Nissan Armada can carry up to eight people and can tow up to 8500 pounds. This puts it in line with rivals like the Chevy Tahoe or the GMC Yukon. The Armada isn’t equipped with the same luxury models and excellent infotainment systems as the SUVs, but it offers a smoother ride and a consistent build quality. The standard features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, and more optional driver assistance. Although the 2020 Armada might not be as popular as other SUVs, it still has the capability and content that warrants similar attention.

What’s new for 2020?

The 2020 Armada is almost unchanged, with the exception of a new standard feature or an optional package. All models now have heated exterior mirrors. The Armada now comes with a 22-inch Wheel Package that includes a unique 22-inch wheel wrapped in all-season tires.

Pricing and Which One To Buy

The Armada SL model is our favorite because it offers the most desirable features with the most value. All SL models come standard with 20-inch wheels and a 360-degree camera system. For an additional $3000, those who desire all-weather capabilities of all-wheel drives can purchase it. The Premium package, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear automatic emergency braking and a sunroof, is our favorite. The Captain’s Chairs package transforms the standard second row bench into a pair buckets, making it easier to reach the third row.

Transmission, Engine, and Performance

The Armada has one powertrain: a powerful V-8 engine and a civilized seven speed automatic transmission. This combination can be used with rear- or all-wheel drive, and can tow up to 8500lbs. The Armada is quick, but it doesn’t have engine options. It also has slower passing power than its rivals. The 390-hp V-8’s satisfying thrust is evident in the city. The Armada can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, which is the same time as the Nissan Maxima sedan. It also makes loud exhaust sounds.

The Armada handles well, despite its small size. Although the Armada’s soft suspension may have a certain amount of floatiness, it doesn’t affect the driver’s control. Even though the car was equipped with standard 20-inch wheels, it had a comfortable and quiet ride. Although it’s not sporty, the Armada is more refined than its GM counterparts. However, those alternatives have better steering feedback than Nissan. The Armada’s steering wheel is slow and imprecise, allowing the SUV to float along the highway like its Spanish nameake. The Nissan stopped at 70 mph in just 182 feet, which was the fastest emergency-braking distance. Its brake pedal provided consistent, progressive feedback and had minimal travel.

Fuel Economy and Real World MPG

The fuel economy of any gargant-UV in this class is not spectacular, but the Armada has the least. The EPA estimates and the real-world results of the test are among the best among all the competitors. On our 200-mile fuel economy test route, the all-wheel-drive model achieved an 18-mpg highway rating. It was lower than the competitors, but it was still better than most.

Interior, Comfort, & Cargo

The Armada’s elegant outer shell is complemented by a spacious and comfortable interior. The cabin is better insulated against outside noise and the material quality has been significantly improved over the previous generation. The Armada is still elegant despite minor styling mistakes and fewer options than rivals. It also has more legroom in the third row than comparable-sized alternatives. The Platinum Reserve model, the top-of-the line Platinum Reserve model, adds a two tone theme, quilted seats surfaces and imitation open-pore wooden trim. The glossy wood used in our Platinum test vehicle was not modern and the scrunched leather that covers the doors looked like poufy leather couches of the 1990s. The three-row Armada can carry up to eight people and has a lot of cargo space. The Nissan offers an optional second-row console that can hold the captain’s chairs. However, there is a limited amount of storage in the interior cubby. Our test Armada’s second-row captains chairs folded quickly and easily with a handle that lifts the seat forward. However, manual resets must be done. You can adjust the power-folding third row (standard for the SL and above) via buttons on the cargo area or the armrests. However, snails move much faster.

Connectivity and Infotainment

Every Armada comes with a NissanConnect infotainment and navigation system. The most expensive models include a rear-entertainment system with additional connection points and a navigation system. The standard touchscreen at 8.0 inches was slow to respond in our testing. It also lacks Android Auto integration and Apple CarPlay.
