Mini Cooper S Clubman 2020 reflects the British style that Mini has created and how it can be applied to a compact wagon. The handsome sheetmetal showcases 1960s-era styling, while the cabin is made of premium materials and has quirky, fun design elements. The best part is that this Mini is fun to drive. It’s also available with All-Wheel Drive (known as All4 in Mini marketing). This will give you better grip on slippery roads. Although the Cooper S Clubman’s price is lower than the wagons and hatchbacks it competes with, it’s still one of the most expensive entries in its class. If you are willing to spend, however, you will be able to enjoy a car with unique driving dynamics and a distinctive style.
What’s new for 2020?
Mini has reduced the Cooper Clubman’s engine and trim range for the 2020 model year. Exterior styling has been updated and LED taillights are now included in the standard features. The 2020 Mini Cooper S Clubman receives a new range of leather trims, and interior surfaces. A new seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission with seven-speed speed is standard.
Pricing and Which One To Buy
Cooper S Clubman Base Trim comes with front-wheel driving, while the Cooper S Clubman All4 package includes all-wheel drive. The Cooper S Clubman is a well-equipped option, unless you require the All4’s enhanced grip for travel in inclement conditions. Cooper S Clubman is available on 17-inch wheels with run-flat tires. It also has exterior features like automatic projector beam LED headlights, rain sensing windshield wipers, heated power-adjustable mirrors and heated power-adjustable sides. You will find luxuries like heated front seats and dual-zone automatic air conditioner, keyless entry and push button ignition. The Mini comes standard with driver-assistance features like forward-collision warning, rear parking sensors, and keyless entry.
Transmission, Engine, and Performance
The turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine is the heart of all 2020 Mini Cooper S Clubman models. It produces 189 horsepower and 207 pounds-feet of torque. The powerplant can be matched with a seven speed dual-clutch automated transmission. Both front-drive or all-wheel drive options are available. A Cooper S Clubman with the eight-speed automatic transmission was able to go from zero to 60 mph within 6.6 seconds. The sprint was completed in 7.3 seconds by a Cooper S Clubman equipped with an optional all-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission. These numbers are faster than the Fiat 500L which ran the same distance in 8.2 seconds. Although the Cooper S Clubman is noted for its agility, it can sometimes be a bit too comfortable. We review the Cooper Clubman John Cooper Works Mini wagon, which offers a higher level of performance.
Fuel Economy and Real World MPG
The 2020 Mini Cooper S Clubman’s fuel economy is 26/34 mpg in the city/highway, according to EPA estimates. This Mini is more fuel efficient than its closest rival, the Fiat 500L (22/30 mpg). The Mini wagon’s mileage drops to 23/32 mpg when it has an optional all-wheel drive. We measured 27 mpg during our time with an S Clubman.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo
Cooper S Clubman cabins are built with quality and have an eye-catching design. The display screen is located in the middle stack and is housed in a circular enclosure that is reminiscent the car’s bright round headlights. The cabin is whimsical and cheerful, and the materials used are of high quality. Despite its small size, the Cooper S Clubman offers plenty of space for passengers in both rows. The Cooper S Clubman offers 12.7 cubic feet of cargo storage with all the seats in place. With the rear seats down, this expands to 44.1 cubic yards. This is a lot less space than some competitors. The 2020 Fiat 500L, for example, has 22.4 cubic feet cargo space behind the back seat and 68 cubic foot behind its front seats.
Connectivity and Infotainment
The Mini Cooper S Clubman comes standard with a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, an auxiliary input jack, and streaming audio. All models have Bluetooth connectivity. This allows you to make and receive calls from anywhere, even while driving. You have the option of integrated navigation, wireless charging your devices and an upgraded Harman/Kardon audio system. Apple CarPlay can be used to integrate your devices with ease, but Android Auto smartphone integration cannot.
