The 2020 Mercedes-AMG E63S long-roof station wagon is a rare car that offers the same performance, style, and practicality as the E63 S. It is still a highly desirable mode of transportation and many people who can afford it may never have to purchase another car. Its 603-hp twin turbo V-8 engine and all-wheel drive system fortify it, allowing it to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. It is almost as fast as supercars like the Audi R8. The Mercedes-AMG wagon is able to carry multiple adults with unrivalled quiet and comfort, unlike the impractical exotic. It also boasts all manner of modern amenities and luxuries, which essentially make the 2020 E63 S wagon a one-size-size-fits-all supercar.
What’s new for 2020?
Mercedes has made some changes to the E63S wagon for 2020. Each version comes standard with a performance exhaust as well as a drive-mode selector mounted on to the steering wheel. Slippery mode was added to improve handling in slippery conditions. The new “Emotion Start” feature allows the driver to make more noise at startup. You also have the option to get a Comfort package, which includes an air-fragrance system and filtration system, as well as updated steering-wheel trim material.
Pricing and Which One To Buy
The 2020 AMG E63S wagon is more practical than the sedan version, but it costs several thousand more. We think that the long-roof E63S is the best option. Mercedes offers many options and packages. Although it is possible to make the wagon cost more than $140,000, we prefer to be less. Exterior Lighting packages include LED adaptive headlights with high-beams and the Warmth and Comfort pack adds heated steering wheels and front armrests. The Acoustic Comfort package keeps the cabin quiet. The Driver Assistance package, which includes a head-up display and massaging the front seats, would also be added. This package includes adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring. It also provides lane-keeping assistance.
Engine, Transmission, & Performance
The E63 S wagon houses a sinister 603-hp twin turbo V-8. It is mated with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic+ all wheel drive. The superwagon was able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just three seconds and complete the quarter-mile in just 11.2 seconds at 126 miles per hour. The Mercedes-AMG GT R, which is lighter and more powerful than the E63 S wagon, was actually 0.3 seconds slower at 60 mph and the same time for the quarter-mile. The E63 S wagon also features AMG upgrades over the E-class Mercedes-Benz E63 wagon. These include a sport-tuned suspension and larger brakes. There is also a rear-drive only mode that allows for some wild antics. Each version features an adjustable air suspension which adjusts ride quality but still feels firm. The E63’s impressive braking abilities, which can go from 70 mph to zero in just 153 feet, and communicative steering confirm its high-performance heritage.
Fuel Economy and Real World MPG
According to the government, the E63 S wagon is expected to earn 16 mpg city-wide and 23 mpg highway. The E63 S sedan’s city rating for the longroof is only 1 mpg higher than that of the longroof. The AMG wagon has no real competitors, at least until the Audi RS6 Avant is available here. We have not tested the E63 S wagon’s 200-mile fuel economy route. However, we did test the sedan version which got 22 mpg.
Interior, Comfort, & Cargo
The E63 S wagon’s tire-squealing and exhaust-popping nature is masked by its luxurious interior that preserves the company’s luxury predisposition and tranquil noise levels. The dashboard features a continuous panel with two high-res displays, one for the gauge cluster and the other for the infotainment system. It is covered with premium materials, which make the cabin feel special. The standard features include customizable ambient lighting, heated/ventilated front seats, massaging seats, and more. The 2020 E63 S wagon has a large back seat, 64 cubic feet of cargo space (35 cubes when all the seats are up), and is as fast as it is useful.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Each E63 S comes with an intuitive and attractive infotainment system. The 12.3-inch screen is controlled via a hub located on the center console. It features a touchpad and a rotary knob that make it feel second nature to operate the system. It is standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built in navigation, Burmester audio, wireless charging, and built-in navigation. If you want even more features, you can add a head-up display or Wi-Fi hotspot.
